Unesco İnsanlığın Somut Olmayan Kültürel Mirasının Temsili Listesi

Somut olmayan kültürel mirası daha gözle görülür kılmak, önemi konusunda bilinçlenmeyi sağlamak  ve kültürel çeşitliliğe saygı içinde diyalogu desteklemek için, Taraf Devletlerin teklifi üzerine, insanlığın somut olmayan kültürel mirasının temsili bir listesi hazırlanır, güncellenir ve yayımlanır.

İster sürdürülegelen bir gelenek deyin, ister ata sporu.. Kırkpınar, Türk'ün yiğitliğinin yazıldığı, mertliğinin anlatıldığı ve gücünün tüm dünyaya asırlardır gösterildiği yerdir...

 

Yer yüzündeki en eski medeniyetlerden birine sahip olan, Türk milletinin tarihte bıraktığı izler, eserlerinde olduğu kadar kültüründe, sosyal yaşantısında, gelenek ve göreneklerinde de kendini göstermektedir.

Türk milleti, binlerce yıllık tarihi boyunca ve devletler kurdukları topraklar üzerinde genelde savaşçı bir millet olarak anılmışlardır. Türk ordusunun savaşa hazırlanırken yaptığı hazırlıkların başında da spor ve güreş gelmektedir. Türk güreşinin aslı Hun imparatorluğunun kurulduğu döneme kadar dayanmaktadır. O dönemlerde karşımıza "Karakucak" olarak çıkan güreş, Osmanlı imparatorluğunun Rumeli’ye geçişiyle özünü ve ruhunu kaybetmeden yağlı güreşler olarak düzenlenmeye başlamış ve günümüze kadar sürdürüle gelen bir gelenek halini almıştır.

Kırkpınar Güreşlerinin Doğuşu

Tarihi Kırkpınar Güreşleri’nin doğuşuna ilişkin çeşitli rivayetler vardır. Bunlardan en yaygın olanı kısaca şöyledir:

1346 yılında Orhan Gazi’nin Rumeli’yi ele geçirmek için düzenlediği seferler sırasında, kardeşi Süleyman Paşa 40 askerle Bizanslılar’a ait Domuzhisar’ın üzerine yürür. Baskınla burasını ele geçirirler. Öteki hisarların da ele geçirilmesinden sonra, 40 kişilik öncü birlik geri dönerler ve şimdi Yunanistan’ın topraklarında kalan Samona’da mola verirler. 40 cengaver burada güreşe tutuşurlar. Saatlerce süren güreşlerde, adlarının Ali ile Selim olduğu rivayet edilen iki kardeşin bir türlü yenişemedikleri görülür.

Daha sonra bir Hıdrellez gününde, Edirne yakınlarındaki Ahıköy çayırında aynı çift yeniden güreşe tutuşurlar. Bütün bir gün güreşmelerine rağmen yine yenişemeyen kardeş pehlivanlar, gece boyunca da mum ve fener ışığında mücadelelerini sürdürmeye devam ederler. Ancak solukları kesilerek oldukları yerde can verirler.

Arkadaşları onları aynı yerdeki bir incir ağacının altına gömerek oradan ayrılırlar. Yıllar sonra ise aynı yere gittiklerinde iki pehlivanın mezarlarının bulunduğu yerde gür bir pınar görürler. Bundan sonra halk orada yatanların anısına o yöreye, "KIRKPINAR" adını verirler.

Kırkpınar'ın yeri ve Edirne'ye taşınması

Yunanistan’ın Samona köyünün merası içindeki alan asıl KIRKPINAR çayırıdır. Balkan Savaşları ve Birinci Dünya Savaşı sonunda, Kırkpınar Güreşleri Edirne ile Mustafapaşa yolu arasındaki "Virantekke" denilen yerde düzenlenmiştir.

Cumhuriyet’ten sonra 1924 yılında ise güreşler Edirne’nin Sarayiçi mevkiinde yapılmaya başlanmıştır.

Kırkpınar Güreşleri 1928 yılına kadar "Kırkpınar Ağaları" tarafından düzenlenmiştir. Güreşlerdeki ödülleri ve misafirlerin ağırlanmasını da ağalar karşılamıştır. 

Ancak 1928 yılında ülkede meydana gelen ekonomik sıkıntılar nedeniyle ağalığa talip çıkmayınca, güreşlerin organize ve gelenleri ağırlama işi Kızılay ve Çocuk Esirgeme Kurumu tarafından üstlenilmiştir.

Tarihi Kırkpınar Güreşleri, 1946 yılından itibaren de Edirne Belediyesi tarafından düzenlenmeye başlanmıştır. Aynı yıl zamanın Belediye Başkanı Tahsin Şıpka Kırkpınar Güreşleri’ni Belediye hizmetleri arasına almıştır. 

Kırkpınar Güreşleri yılın hangi döneminde yapılır?

Kırkpınar Güreşleri, geleneksel olarak her yıl haziran ayının son haftasında yapılır.
